Este retraso se nos fue acumulando durante todo el recorrido. Cogimos por N-432, al pasar por la antigua Estación del Vacar, que hoy ya no existe, divisamos los restos del Castillo, refugio, del Vacar, también llamado de "Mano de Hierro". Este Castillo fue construido en época califal, en tiempos de Al Hakem II, o quizás antes. En el S. XIII fue conquistado por Fernando III, que lo entregó a la ciudad de Córdoba. Tiene unas dimensiones de 65x59, 5x50, 1x49,5 metros, los muros son 1,7 m. y de varias puertas que había solo queda una con las jambas. Su principal misión era controlar y servir de refugio en el camino de Córdoba a Emérita Augusta -Vía de la Plata. Hoy solo queda el recinto y la huella de sus 8 torres, no parece que ninguna fuera del Homenaje, tampoco hay aljibe, lo que hace pensar que no tenía misión defensiva. se aprecian varias grandes troneras, que fueron abiertas muy posteriormente con motivo de la invasión francesa. De todo esto se deduce, que realmente nunca tuvo un uso militar. Solo fue, como se ha dicho antes, refugio para los peregrinos a Santiago y como guarida para el ganado. Su uso militar solo fue esporádicamente en la E.
